Rural Disabled Women Association (RUDIWA) 2023
In Uganda, about 16% of children have disabilities, most of them girls from rural communities and poor families. This results in lack of access to education, which can lead to child marriage. This project seeks to ensure the right to education for girls with disabilities in rural communities in Uganda, with the aim of increasing their enrolment and delaying marriage. It also addresses the economic and cultural barriers they face and focuses on providing sexual and reproductive health training, gender-based violence awareness and support to families and teachers. The aim is to reduce gender and disability discrimination and promote inclusion and self-reliance for these girls.
